 This year I was entitled to a 4 week sabbatical in addition to my normal three weeks of vacation. Some of it I just spent around the house, doing put off chores, rebuilding this website, etc.
The rest of it, however, was more interesting. I went on a road trip with my dad on our motorcycles, much like we did in the summer of 2000. This is the story of that trip.

| On July 5th, I did my first triathlon (appropriately named "My First Triathlon") in and around Cultus Lake, BC. it was a Sprint distance race 400 meter swim / 22 km bike / 5 km run. This is the story of how it went.

From the deep, dark (well, actually pretty sunny) recesses of the British Columbia outback comes a exceptionally dirty CRV filled with two people, a dog, and an amazing amount of camping shit, and they look like they have not seen civilization in a while.
And indeed they haven't. And it shows. And you can kind of smell it too...
More that you needed to know? Perhaps! Anyway, our vacation went well.

This is the goldfish in our living room. In the larger picture, you can see them in their pot with the bamboo fountain. In the picture the black fish is hard to distinguish from the filter/pump.
We never got around to naming them...

We have a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Riziki.

This picture was taken at the Ridgeback National Specialty show in Colorado in August 1999. In the larger picture, you can see Riziki is being held by Scott Price, his breeder.
Riziki's name is a Swahili word which means "Destiny", although in retrospect maybe we should have picked a Swahili word which
means "stubborn", "chaser-of-cats", or "shredder of mail". Who knew?

After several years of riding my old Honda Nighthawk, I finally got to trade up to a newer bike. And I'm in Loooooooove! I got a near
new 2000 Suzuki Bandit 1200s. It had 4,000 kms on it when I bought it, and now, 4 months later has almost 12,000kms on it. And I've loved every minute of it. Even in the rain...
