Got the chores out of the way this morning. Dawn made some tweaks to
one of the shop doors so the latch will work better (it has never
had worked quite right). Then we changed the oil in the truck. I
have to say that Ford put a lot of thought into the oil filter. It
is on top, not the kind that screws a metal filter on the side of
the block. When you pull off the lid, it pulls the filter right
out with it. The filter retains very little oil when you pull
it out, and doesn't spill oil all over the side of the engine
(like every other engine I've ever worked on.) And they made the
oil drain plug magnetic, so you can stick it to the bottom of the
oil pan while the oil is draining and not lose it. Nice touch.
All that said, I doubt we'll ever do it ourselves again. The cost
for the oil and filter from a local auto part store came to only $8
less than having the dealer do it. I'm willing to spend the extra
to not have the hassle of doing it, cleaning up, and recycling
the used oil.
